July 4, 2026
The Town of Swan River is pleased to advise that the Mandatory Evacuation Order has been lifted effective immediately.
While residents may now return to their homes, significant hazards remain throughout the affected areas. We ask everyone to use extreme caution as they begin the cleanup and recovery process.
Important Safety Information
Flood Waters Remain
Some properties continue to have standing and moving flood water.
- Do not enter fast-moving water. Flood waters can move quickly and pose a serious risk to life.
- Flood waters may be contaminated and can contain hidden hazards such as debris, damaged infrastructure, sharp objects, and other dangers that may not be visible.
- If you must travel through affected areas, proceed with extreme caution.
Watch for Falling Trees
The ground remains heavily saturated, increasing the risk of trees becoming unstable and falling without warning.
Please be alert and avoid standing or parking near leaning or damaged trees.
Roadway Hazards
Public Works crews continue working throughout the community.
Please:
- Watch for debris, damaged pavement, washouts, and other hazards on roadways.
- Do not drive over pump hoses that may be stretched across portions of streets.
- Obey all barricades and road closures.
- Avoid driving through remaining flood waters whenever possible. Flood waters may conceal hazards and vehicle wakes can push water back onto already impacted properties, causing additional damage.
Returning Home Safely
Hydro & Electrical Safety
If your home has been flooded, do not restore power or reconnect electrical equipment until it has been inspected and deemed safe.
If you suspect your electrical system has been affected by flood waters, contact a qualified electrician before attempting to energize your home. Visit the Manitoba Hydro website for more information and recommendations

Flood Debris Collection
As cleanup begins, residents are asked to place all flood-damaged materials in one pile on the front lawn for future collection.
Please separate refrigerators and freezers from the rest of your flood debris.
Additional information regarding debris collection will be shared as recovery plans are finalized.
Cleaning Supplies
The Donation Centre has now shifted its focus toward recovery.
Staff and volunteers are currently assembling cleaning supply packages for affected residents.
We will announce through the Town's official communication channels when these packages are ready for pickup.

Residents who require:
- Continued hotel accommodations;
- Emergency financial assistance; or
- Other eligible ESS supports
must register directly with ESS representatives to determine eligibility.
